MARIE-JOSÉE CHOQUETTE

Born in Granby, in the Eastern Townships (Quebec), Marie-Josée Choquette discovered the piano at the age of nine and has been composing since 2002. After five years of private lessons, Marie-Josée received formal teaching at the Vincent-d'Indy School of Music in Montreal and continued her studies in classical music and performance at the Université de Sherbrooke.

Early on, life's challenges, hard work, and talent led Marie-Josée to musical composition. Her creations are deeply inspired by her close connection to nature and motherhood. They save her, inspire her, and nourish her. Thirty pieces have come to life across three albums, with two of them receiving ADISQ nominations in the “Instrumental Album of the Year” category. From this body of work, Marie-Josée has orchestrated around fifty performances, staged notably by Raoul Duguay and Jessy Brown. Throughout these performances, the pianist collaborates with numerous talented musicians who enrich her work on stage.

Over the years, Marie-Josée has composed and orchestrated a film score for Rwanda : Après le sang, l’espoir (Rwanda: After the Blood, Hope), broadcast on Radio-Canada and directed by Alain Stanké. She has also reorchestrated several of her pieces for use in various documentaries and videos. On four occasions, her compositions have been used by athletes in international figure skating competitions.
